This policy describes how data is used in Point, an app for iPhone and iPad developed by Giuseppe La Guardia. Point lets you record points of interest (waypoints), GPS tracks and related content during outings, journeys and surveys.
This policy covers the app. Any processing carried out by the website hosting this page, such as cookies, contact forms and browsing logs, must be described in the website's own privacy notice.
1. Controller and contact details
Data controller: Giuseppe La Guardia
Privacy contact email: support@giuzzilab.com
2. Data used by the app
Point processes and stores on your device the data needed for the features you choose to use:
- Waypoint and track locations: latitude, longitude and, when available, altitude, speed, heading, location accuracy and the date and time of each measurement. Technical information supplied by the system, such as the floor of a building or whether a location came from an accessory or a simulation, may also be saved.
- Session and waypoint information: names, categories, dates, times, written notes and references linking points, tracks and attachments.
- Media: photos and voice notes you choose to attach to waypoints.
- Preferences: profiles, custom buttons and app settings.
Point does not require an account or ask for your name, email address or phone number to use its features. Notes, photos and recordings may nevertheless contain personal data about you or others, depending on what you add.
3. Purposes and legal basis
Data is used to record and review waypoints and routes, attach notes and media, display sessions on maps, calculate route statistics and create the exports you request.
Processing necessary to provide the requested features is based on performance of the service under Article 6(1)(b) of Regulation (EU) 2016/679 (GDPR). Operating system permissions control access to location, camera and microphone; they do not, by themselves, establish the legal basis for every processing activity.
The app does not integrate advertising, usage analytics or advertising tracking systems. Archive content is not used for marketing, profiling or automated decisions with legal or similarly significant effects.
4. Location, camera and microphone
Location: Point requests location access when needed to obtain coordinates for a waypoint or record a track. For individual waypoints, acquisition lasts only as long as needed to obtain a location; continuous route recording takes place when you start GPS recording, including through the option to start it with the session.
Location acquisition may continue in the background, including while the screen is locked, to finish locating a waypoint or continue an active track. You can pause or stop the track using the app's controls. If you deny location access, waypoints can be saved without coordinates and track recording is unavailable.
Camera: used to take photos to attach to waypoints when you activate this feature.
Microphone: used to record voice notes you choose to attach to waypoints. Point does not record audio for other purposes.
When photo selection through the system picker is available, Point imports the selected image without requesting general access to your photo library.
You can change or revoke permissions in your device settings. Denying a permission limits features that depend on it; revoking it does not delete previously saved data.
5. Storage and Apple services
Sessions and attachments are stored in the app's local storage. Point has no cloud service of its own to synchronise the archive and does not automatically send waypoints, tracks, photos or voice notes to the developer's servers. The developer cannot view your local archive remotely.
Maps are provided through Apple's mapping services. Their operation may involve communications with Apple, including requests concerning the geographic area displayed and technical data needed to provide the service. These communications are separate from local archive storage. Apple's processing is governed by its applicable privacy notices:

Depending on your device settings, app data may be included in iCloud backups or backups made on a computer. This is managed by the operating system and is not cloud synchronisation implemented by Point. Information about iCloud backups:

6. Exporting and sharing
At your request, Point creates GPX files, a CSV index and a ZIP archive that may include photos and voice notes. Files are saved in Point's export folder, accessible in the Files app.
Exports may contain coordinates, routes, dates, times and personal content. Sharing with other apps, people or services takes place through destinations you select in the system share sheet. Recipients process the data under their own terms and privacy policies.
Point does not transfer the archive to its own servers, either inside or outside the European Union. Any processing or transfers by Apple services or services you send files to are governed by their respective privacy notices.
7. Retention and deletion
Sessions remain in the local archive until you choose to delete them. You can delete individual waypoints, individual sessions or all sessions using the app's controls.
Deleting data from the archive does not automatically delete previously exported files, copies sent to other apps or people, or copies in backups. If an archive cannot be read, Point may also keep a technical recovery copy on your device; normal session deletion controls do not delete this copy.
Fully deleting the app from your device removes its local archive and any technical recovery copies in the app's storage. Removing only the icon from the Home Screen does not delete this data. Copies stored elsewhere and backups must be managed separately through the relevant services.
8. Requests sent to the controller
If you write to the contact listed in this policy, the controller receives your email address and any data you include in your message. It is used to handle your request and, for privacy rights requests, fulfil obligations under the GDPR pursuant to Article 6(1)(c).
Communications are retained as long as necessary to respond and document how the request was handled, taking into account applicable legal obligations and the protection of rights. The controller uses email service providers to receive and manage communications, limited to the data necessary to provide that service.
9. Your rights
Where provided by the GDPR, you may request access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing and data portability, or object to processing where the applicable conditions are met. You may also withdraw any consent without affecting the lawfulness of processing carried out before withdrawal.
For requests concerning processing within the controller's responsibility, use the email address at the beginning of this policy. Because the controller does not hold your local archive, it cannot access, export or delete it remotely: these operations are performed on your device using the app's tools.
You may lodge a complaint with the Italian data protection authority (Garante per la protezione dei dati personali) or the competent supervisory authority. Information about exercising your rights:

10. Updates
This policy may be updated to describe changes to the app's features or the way data is processed. The date at the top indicates the latest update.
